A three day exhibition was organized at Chakung, to exhibit old photographs and files pertaining to Chakung.

  x)

A permanent gallery of ethnographic objects was set up at the main hall of the archives' office. The gallery is divided into three sections-  metal, wood and bamboo. At least one hundred artifacts belonging to various ethnic communities of Sikkim are on display. A case study on the attributive features and cultural background of the artifacts is done and the exhibits are provided with single sentence labeling.

Fifteen sculptures and fifty paintings acquired from Lalit Kala Academy, (New Delhi) is stored at the archives annex building after duly accessioned (October 2005).

  xii)

 Co-ordinated with the Anthropological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture, and Government of India in their National Project entitled “Study of Syncretism in India” for conducting their field investigations in the State.

  xiii)

 UNESCO Buddhist Temple Project meeting at Gangtok was held on 18th & 19th January 2005. The South Asia Sub-Regional Caucus Cultural Survival and Revival of Buddhist Sangha; Documentation, Education and training to revitalized traditional decorative arts and building craft in the Buddhist Temple of Asia was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim. The Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage was supported by the Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department in the said project.

The Joint Secretary Shri S.D. Dhakal was deputed as Liaison Officer to His Holiness the Dalai Lama during H.H.’s visit to Sikkim from 20th to 27th April 2005. A colorful cultural program was organized at Guards Ground at the venue of H.H.Sermons on 23rd April.

The Indrajatra Festival is one of the oldest traditional festivals of Newar Community of Sikkim. The festival was organized jointly at Turung, South Sikkim by this Department & Sikkim Newar Sangathan on September 2005.

  xvi)

In April 2005, a sum of rupees 2 lakhs was sanctioned and transferred to Forest Department for the purpose of clearing vegetation and restoring the ruined fort situated at Budang, Central Pendam. The fort popularly known as Budang Gadi has been preserved with the technical expertise at Archaeological Survey of India, based at Gyalshing. The local residents generously supported with their labours for 3 months. Now the fort has got some respectful appearance.

   

2. Song and Drama Unit:

  i) The cultural troupe of the Division performed at Guwahati, Assam from 13th – 18th April 2005 during the visit of the Prime Minister.
  ii)  Vaishakhi was held at Melli, South Sikkim on 14th November.
  iii)

The Cultural program was presented in honour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Guards Ground, Gangtok in April 2005.

  iv) The Unit participated in the Tourist Festival held on 10th May 2005 at Pelling, West Sikkim.
  v)

The artists of the Unit performed in the program organized by the Army in June 2005 at Black Cat, Gangtok

  xvi) A Cultural program was organized on the eve of Independence Day at TNA ground, Gangtok
  vii)

The cultural troupe of the Unit took part in the cultural show organized by the NEZCC in the inauguration of the Shilpgram, Guwahati by the Prime Minister of India in September 2005.

  viii)

The Unit organized the Desai Festival at Namchi, South Sikkim in October 2005.

  ix)

The cultural troupe lead by the Song & Drama Unit took part in the Tourist Festival at Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh in November 2005.

  x) The artistes of the Unit performed for the army at Sukuna, Siliguri in December 2005.
  xi)

Different folk dances were presented at the Food Craft and Cultural Festival from 9th to 12th December at Gangtok.
